The AI does better when given time to build up. On the other hand, it really encourages/enforces early conquest, which benefits the player. On the one hand, this increases challenge. If you've played the civ series, this is basically the same as the "Always war" variant which is a popular way to increase the challenge. This "locks" you in war with everybody without the ability to ever make peace. Try placing 7 AIs in a team against you. Once I started getting the upper hand over the orc warlord, he kicked in and started sending armies against him. He was in the process of wiping Merlin off the map when I declared war on him. I had a rather poor starting position, and an enemy wizard Dreadnaught declared war on me early in the game. I tried Emperor for the first time, and was expecting to get crushed, as I did the first time I tried King. ![]()
